MPR HOPEFULL THIS NH SEASON.

Here are my thoughts on the Middelham Park Racing National Hunt horses for 2018/19 season.

In a autumnal weather with the sun shone at Severn Barrows, the horses trotted around the Wexford Sand gallop which Nicky Henderson installed a few years ago. They all arrived back at the yard, in which Nicky Henderson spoke about the horses individually.

MARIE’S ROCK: She looked fantastic at the yard and she looks a very precocious filly. She did a very nice little work out on the Wexford gallops. By looking at her, Marie’s Rock has got a lot of scope. Comparing to another filly/mare which MPR (Middelham Park Racing) did have which was Quite Candid. This filly Marie’s Rock seems to be, to have a lot more ability and will win races by looking at her. Also there is a very good program of races of black type etc. For fillies and mares in the National Hunt sphere. In which the BHA are trying to improve.

SECRET SINGER ex OUDETTE: He looked a big horse for a 3yr Old and he is built to go over fences. Nicky likes him, by from his bags of scope and the class to go with it. He was broken in by the yard at Severn Barrows. The work rider and trainer, are very happy what they are seeing. He’s just improving since day one on the gallops. Be interesting what he does on his first bumper run. But he will be exciting going over hurdles and fences in the future. One to keep an eye on.

JEN’S BOY 4yr Old: Nicky Henderson said “He’s summered well and looking good”. Jen’s Boy is now a 4yr Old and he will go novice hurdling this season. I would think, he will start 2 and half mile hurdle race’s and he should improve on his distances along the way. Last season he had only two runs in his bumpers. He finished 8th place in a listed bumper race at Newbury. And he’s second run in a bumper he finished second place at Towcester. Nicky has schooled him and he showed he has a natural talent jumping over the hurdles.

DU DESTIN 5yr Old BHA Hurdle mark 97: Du Destin has been a bit disappointing last season. Also in my eyes a tad unlucky in general. But now he has a workable handicap mark of 97 over hurdles. I’m sure he will improve that mark. He does jump very well over obstacles, but now he’s got to get it right in his races I feel. But we will wait and see this season.

EL KALDOUN 4yr Old: This is my horse to follow for this season. Unfortunately he missed last season from no fault of his own. But now he is ready to start his career. Trainer Nicky Henderson is thinking to have one bumper and then go straight to novice hurdling. He’s done lots of schooling on his absence last season. When he does go over hurdles I think he will start 2 miles races and he will progress. He has lots of talent.

DIVINE SPEAR 7yr Old BHA mark Chase 141 Hurdle 133: Another my horse to follow for this season. What an absolute star he has been for his owners last season. He’s been at the top end of races in class 2 and class 3 etc. He started his career over fences for the first time was at Catterick. He jumped so well over the stiff fences at catterick. But his finest moment was at Ascot, winning by 10 lengths and dropping in trip. But still he took the Ascot fences very well. I’m sure in time he will run in 3 mile chasers, but I think he will start in 2 Mile 3 Furlong or 2 Mile 5 Furlong chase races. He’s that good he will be targeted at top races again this season. Also he could run in the Cheltenham Festival next March.

CAPTAIN WOODIE 6yr Old: It was great to see Captain Woodie at the yard, Nicky Henderson is very happy with him doing lots of road work. Now it’s the time he will be going on the Wexford Sand gallop getting into shape for this season. The trainer is looking forward to see him over hurdles. He probably will start at 2 Mile hurdle races or a bit further to start his career. He could be another exciting horse to go over hurdles for MPR (Middelham Park Racing).

DUKE DEBARRY 7yr Old BHA mark Hurdle 120: Duke Bebarry is a big son of Presenting in which last season he was running over hurdles. He is built for jumping fences this season, so he will go novice chasing. He has the size and scope to do this. I’m sure he will be running over 3 mile+ chase races. He’s  been very good jumping over hurdles and I’m sure he will bring that to the chasing game. He’s one for the future running in the Eider chase or 4 mile chase in the Cheltenham Festival at some stage.

ARMAANS WISH 7yr Old: He made a great come back run, at Worcester to finish second place from his injury he had last season. Nicky Henderson said at the stable visit, “He’s moving well and looking great”. It’s been a long patient progress for Armaans to get him right. But the trainer has the belief in him of his ability etc. He jumps very well over hurdles in which he will stay over them this season. So keep an eye out on him in novice hurdle races. In the near future he will jump a fence in time and shown he has the ability to do that.
